Movement
The weight-driven 12-hour brass movement of this lantern clock has going and alarm trains, constructed between vertical bars. The going train has a horizontal verge escapement, situated on the top plate, and a short pendulum.
Dial
The circular brass dial has a chapter ring with Roman hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, Arabic five-minute and minute divisions. The time is indicated by a pair blued-steel hands. Behind the hands is an Arabic alarm disc. The top half of the centre has a floral and scroll leaf engraving, whilst the bottom half is signed by the maker in the following manner: Fortin AParis
Case
The brass case is of typical form with two doors to the sides and a backplate with hoop and spikes. It is surmounted by a bell in a bell strap. The top corners are embellished by turned brass finials, whilst the top of the bell has a similarly shaped finial. There are four drop finials below the bottom plate. Around the bell are three pierced frets, the front one engraved, depicting a satyr head.
