Movement
This weight-driven longcase regulator has a massive brass movement with going train only. It has adjustable dead-beat escapement with compensation pendulum and maintaining power.

Dial
The circular, white enamel dial has a black Roman chapter ring with five-minute and minute divisions. It is surrounded by a moulded gilt brass bezel. The winding hole is situated above the VI. The maker has signed the movement in the centre of the dial in the following manner: PEUPIN HORLOGER DE LA VILLE A PARIS. The time is indicated by a fine pair of blued-steel Breguet hands. In addition, it has a central sweep counterbalanced steel seconds hand.

Case
The mahogany-veneered pine case is glazed on three sides. The front has a full-length door. The case is dated inside as follows: 27 mai 1853. The base of this austere case has, just like the top, fine mouldings.

The maker
Henri-Alexander Peupin (1809-1872) was established in Paris. He was apprenticed to Lory, and became clock and watchmaker, as well as spring maker. He founded the “Union Chronométrique” in the period 1845-48. A special fact is that the Parisian clubs nominated him as candidate for the general elections. He got 131.969 votes.
