CARRIAGE CLOCK WITH PORCELAIN DIAL

Movement
The spring-driven movement consists of going and striking trains, as well as alarm and was made for the English market. The going train has English lever escapement, hairspring balance and regulation on a silvered platform. The striking indicates the hours fully and the half hours with one stroke on a gong and has repetition. The clock is wound from the back, where the time and the alarm can be set as well, facilitated by the engraved words ‘Hands’ and ’Alarum’.

Dial
The colourful rectangular porcelain dial is embellished around the chapter ring. The larger chapter ring at the top indicates the time and has Roman hour numerals with five-minute and minute divisions. Around this ring are painted floral and leaf motifs. The centre depicts clouds. The smaller chapter ring at the bottom for the alarm has Arabic numerals and is flanked by two painted angels. The time is indicated by a pair of blued steel hands; the alarm time by a small blued steel pointer.

Case
The beautifully shaped gilt brass ‘gorge’ case has a hand painted porcelain dial. It is glazed on all sides so that the movement is almost entirely visible. The top is surmounted by a shaped carrying handle. On the front of the top is the repetition button.
