Movement
The spring-driven brass plated movement consist of a going train and alarm. The going train has verge escapement with balance and regulation. Going and alarm trains are driven by a single spring in a spring barrel, which is wound from the front.

Dial
The rectangular brass dial has a Roman chapter ring with half-hour and quarter-hour divisions. The brass alarm disc has Arabic hour numerals. The time is indicated by a single blued steel hand. The alarm time is indicated on the alarm disc by the tail of the hour hand. The dial has engraved scroll spandrels.

Case
The brass case is surmounted by an oval bell under a protective pierced brass cover. The top of the case has four turned finials on the corners, whilst the bell is surmounted by a similarly shaped finial. The balance is protected by a brass cover. At the bottom of this cover the regulation can be operated by an arrow-pointed blued-steel lever on a semi-circular graduated segment. The maker has signed the clock at the bottom of the back panel Renard in Firenze.

The maker
Giovanni Renard was active as a clockmaker in Florence where he made a 25 cm high table clock in the shape of a tower at the beginning of the 18th century; the clock had a single hand and alarm.
