Movement
Round brass pillar plated movement with anchor escapement and pendulum. Striking work on count-wheel with hour striking and one strike on the half-hour. The movement is inscribed on a spring: “1791”

Dial-plate
Round, white enamelled dial-plate with black enamelled Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, and red enamelled Arabic numerals for the date. In the centre the brass fire gilt hands for the hour and minute indication and a steel hand to indicate the date. The wind up holes are symmetrically placed opposite each other near the VIII and the IIII. The dial is inscribed above the VI “Persevalle à Reims” The dial-plate is framed by a brass, fire gilt pearl shaped border.

The case
Oval foot with gilt mounts and toupie feet. The lyre frame mounted with acanthus leaf and pearl like gilt mounts. The Apollo sunburst to the top hiding a knifedge suspension.

Apollo
Apollo or the Sun God is one of the twelve gods of Olympus. He is the son of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis (Diana). He is identified with the sun god Helios (Sol). He represents ideal male physical beauty. He is depicted as a beardless young man with fine, sometimes rather feminine facial features, his hair is long. The lyre is one of his accessories as god of poetry and music and as leader of the Muses.
